Theatre Classes at AHS

The benefits of both Theatre Arts and Technical Theatre are numerous. Students gain skills that are relevant beyond the theatre world. Students in these classes:

● Gain leadership skills through collaborative projects

● Develop a confident voice for public speaking and presenting

 

● Experience varied perspectives

 

● Build creative problem solving skills

 

● Destress while still being productive

 

● Build relationships with students they might not otherwise interact with

 

● Experience active lessons and hands-on projects

Theatre Arts

  • Improvisation

  • Audition Techniques

  • Acting Shakespeare

  • Text Analysis

  • Theatre for Young Audiences

  • Acting for the Camera

  • VHSL One Act Competition

Technical Theatre

behind-the-scenes aspects of theatre:

  • Designing

  • Producing

  • Engineering

Sample Units of Study:

  • Set Design and Construction

  • Scenic Painting

  • Costume Design and Construction

  • Lighting Design and Engineering

  • Make up Design

  • Sound Design and Engineering

  • Stage Management

All courses are year-long.  Levels 1, 2, 3, 4 are offered. Levels 3 and 4 are Honors Courses that include a +0.5 credit.
