Mark Slough

Mark Slough (AHS Class of 2014) was a treasured member of both the AHS Choral Program and Annandale Theatre Company during his four years at Annandale High School. Mark was one of those people who made life better just by being in it;  his was a bright light of effortless wit, brilliance, and laughter. Mark inspired and lifted those around him through his easy acceptance of self and others, and in his joyful dedication to excellence in music and art. Mark graduated and entered the aerospace engineering program  at Virginia Teach in Blacksburg, VA, where his earthly life abruptly ended following a cycling accident on October 8, 2015. This loss continues to be deeply felt by all who were fortunate to know him.

The Bright Light Award

In fond remembrance and celebration of this remarkable, witty, and joyous young man, the  Mark Slough "Bright Light" Award was established in 2017. This annual award will be given to a senior who has proven their own commitment and dedication to both the Theatre and Chorus programs, whether stage-front or behind the scenes. This person's light may be one that shines brightly, illuminating the lives of others, or they may be a person who might shine all the more for being illuminated and celebrated.
